Angela Rose Burkett, 52, of Oil City, died unexpectedly at her residence at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 5th.Born March 2, 1962 in Franklin, Angela was the daughter of James and Phyllis Fonzo Burkett. She was the wife of John Wayne Winger. Angela attended St. Patrick Catholic School and was a 1980 graduate of Venango Catholic High School. While in high school, she played basketball and was instrumental in helping her team win the State Championship and was named "MVP". Angela was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Polish National Alliance Club in Oil City. She graduated from DuBois Business College where she obtained an Associate Degree in Business. Angela enjoyed martial arts and had obtained her Black Belt in Kung Fu. She also enjoyed gardening, but she especially cherished the times she spent with her family and friends in Henry's Bend sitting on the dock by the river. In addition to her parents and husband, Angela is survived by her sons, John James Winger and Blake Elliot Winger, both of Henry's Bend; her brother, Theodore Joseph Burkett and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Erie; and her two sisters, Patricia A. McCauley and her husband, Mike, of Polk, and Michelle Marie Reck and her husband, Chester, of Oil City.She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and her God-daughter, Jessica LaVerde, of Oil City.Angela was preceded in death by her infant brother, James Joseph Burkett, III; her maternal grandparents, Patsy J. and Mabel I. Fonzo; and her paternal grandparents, James J. and Evelyn B. Burkett.Family and friends of Angela will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Tuesday, July 8th from 10 to 11:45 a.m. A Memorial Mass for Angela will be held at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church at 12:00 noon following visitation.The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Angela's Memory to the "Scholarship Fund for John and Blake Winger", c/o Farmer's National Bank, 7001 Route 322, Cranberry PA 16319.To send cards, flowers, online condolences or for further information, family and friends are invited to visit www.gardinierfuneralhome.com.     She was the fastest girl I ever played sports with. I remember Father Weibel telling us to grab the rebound, turn and throw it…Angie would go get it…she was such an exciting player to watch…

  10. I grew up and went to St. Pat’s with Angie, and was on the basketball team with her. She was a great basketball player and it just came naturally to her. I have not seen her since probably 8th grade graduation but just wanted to let you all know that I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. So very sorry for your loss.
