John Edward Stuttler Jr

John Edward Stuttler, Jr., of Cochranton passed away at home on July 23, 2026, with family at his side.

Born in Franklin on May 12, 1945, he was the son of the late John E. and Bernice Eleanor Woods Stuttler.

He was a 1963 graduate of Franklin Area High School, then went on to Allegheny Technical Institute to receive his Associate degree in Electronics.

John proudly served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Germany during the Vietnam War era.

On May 7, 1988, he married the love of his life, the former Shirley A. Cauvel. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2022.

John had an extensive career with General Electric Locomotive Division, Erie, working in all aspects starting as an Electrical Engineer and retiring in 2002 as a Locomotive Test Engineer.

John played saxophone in the Franklin City Band, the Silver Cornet Band, and the Mostly Brass Band in Oil City. He was a member of ASHE (American Society of Highway Engineers) and the Lake Myrtle Masonic Lodge 316.

He enjoyed traveling abroad and riding his hovercraft on the Allegheny River with his friends. He had an interest in trains and railways and was involved with many veteran organizations.

Family was very important to him and he enjoyed every moment with his sons and grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his children John “Jay” Stuttler, IV (Jacki), of Franklin and James A. Stuttler of Erie; his stepson David A. McEwen (Dawn) of Wake Forest, NC; his grandchildren Adam, Ethan, Zachary, and Connor Stuttler and Brenley Bordeaux; and his sister Elissa Stuttler (David Cherry) of Canadohta Lake and Franklin.

A heartfelt thank you goes to his special friend Darlene Finch and his caretaker Barb Dietz, as well as the Meadville Medical Center and Hospice of Crawford County for their care and compassion.

Guests will be received at Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Sunday, July 26th from 1 pm to 3 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, July 27th at 11 am with Pastor Ron Hunsberger officiating.

John will be laid to rest next to his wife in Franklin Cemetery where military honors will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to the veterans organization or humane society of choice.
