Walter E. Duke, a beloved lifelong resident of Union City, PA, passed away peacefully at home on June 19, 2026, at the age of 93. Walter was born on May 28, 1933, to Fred and Dorothea Ramsey Duke. He spent his working years as an equipment operator at Tru-Temper and proudly served in the U.S. Army.

Walter’s heart and home were made even warmer when he married Vera E. Gilger on April 12, 1980. For 46 wonderful years, they shared life’s joys and challenges, and Vera remains a source of love and support for their family. Walter was known for his great sense of humor, his love of good conversation, and the joy he found in spending time with family and friends. He had a special passion for car collecting and looked forward to attending car shows and sharing his enthusiasm with others.

Walter leaves behind not only his beloved wife, Vera, but also four daughters: Debbie Duke of Erie, Brenda Elias of Erie, Becky (Darryl) Zirkle of Cambridge Springs, and Sue (fiancé Steve) Barnes of Union City. The family also includes several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as stepchildren Jonathan (Penny) Weed of Carlisle, PA, Rhonda Weed of Meadville, Todd (Michelle) Weed of Union City, and Patti (Jay) Plachta of Waterford.

Walter is preceded in death by his parents, two sons Ronald Duke and Walter Duke, Jr., a daughter Lisa Gillette, and a step-daughter Chris Carson. He also grieves the loss of grandson Matt Elias, Jr., and two sisters, Shirley Murphy and Alma Wettiken.

Family and friends are invited to gather together to remember Walter and celebrate his life on Tuesday, June 23rd, with visitation from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and again from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Warren-Glenn Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., located at 62 S. Main Street in Union City. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Pastor Buzz Yost officiating, and Walter will receive military honors for his service. He will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery, Union City.
