Elsa Louise Ohler, 88, passed away on May, 22, 2026 at Sugar Creek Care Center.

Born at home in Aliquippa, PA on October 28, 1937 she was the daughter of the late George Farrell and Phyllis Alice (Lucas) Knight.

On June 10, 1955, Elsa married Wayne Ohler at the Reynolds Methodist Church. They were married 66 years prior to his passing on February 21, 2022.

For the first eight years of her education, Elsa attended one room schools. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1955. In 1972, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Slippery Rock University followed by receiving her Master of Education Degree in Language Arts in 1975.

Elsa’s first job was working as a waitress at Isalys for fifty cents an hour for six days a week. After starting her family, she stayed at home to care for her children for several years. She then worked in the Franklin Hospital’s Pediatric Floor as a nurse’s aide eventually working at Polk Center for 5 1/2 years as a licensed practical nurse.

She finally ended up being a third grade teacher at Utica Elementary for 27 years, and she felt how rewarding it was to serve the Utica students.

Surviving are her children Michael Ohler and his wife, Sandra, of Polk and Kate Service and her husband, Monty, of Lake City; her grandchildren Matt Ohler of Maryland, Jason Ohler and his wife, Ellie of Poland, OH, Bethany Drelick and her husband, Joe, of Franklin, Erin Ohler of Butler, Montgomery Service and his wife, Marie, of Lake City, Max Service of Hawaii, and Lucas Service and his wife Tila of Seattle, WA; 5 great grandchildren; and her brother Donald Knight and his wife, Judith, of Gettysburg. She is further survived by her sisters-in-law Mary Ann Knight of Canton, OH, Dorothy Garlick of Jackson Center, her brother-in-law Frank Wilkinson of Polk, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers Richard F. Knight and George “Butch” F. Knight, Jr.

In keeping with Elsa’s wishes, no public services will be observed and a celebration of Elsa’s life will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care of the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, PA 16323.
