Ruth Viola Hanby, 100, of Canadohta Lake, will be remembered fondly by her family and friends after she passed away peacefully on May 20, 2026, at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge. Born on September 23, 1925, in Union City, Ruth lived a life rich in love, resilience, and devotion.
Ruth was the daughter of Mark and Eva Dine and graduated from Bloomfield School in Lincolnville in 1944. She embarked on a fulfilling career at Molded Fiberglass, where she worked for 27 years until her retirement in 1989.
In July 1944, she married Theodore W. Hanby and moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. Sadly, Theodore was killed in Germany during World War II in April 1945. But Ruth’s strength shone through when she later married Calvin Hanby in July 1958, who preceded her in death in 2002.
Ruth leaves behind her loving daughter, Jennifer L. (Monte) Morris of Union City, her son Jeffery Hanby of Union City, and a proud lineage of grandchildren: John Carniewski, Jeannette Henry, Jason Hanby, and Jaime DeJesus, along with many great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also remembered by her late daughter Theodorsa Maleski and her beloved grandchildren, Jeffery Hanby II and Jodi Kearns, who went before her.
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Ruth’s life at Warren-Glenn Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. on Saturday, May 23, 2026. Visitation will take place from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Ruth will be laid to rest at Loomis Cemetery, where she will join her loved ones in eternal peace.
Ruth’s legacy of strength and love will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
