Born in: Centerville, Pennsylvania
Resided in: Cambridge Springs, Pennsylvania

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley M. Peterson, 73, of Cambridge Springs, who left us peacefully on April 21, 2026. Shirley was born on November 7, 1952, in Centerville, PA, to Theodore N. and Pearl L. McClenahan Sherman. She was, for many, the heart of her family and a devoted homemaker, known for her warm spirit and love for baking and flower gardening.

Shirley was the beloved widow of Ernest “Butch” Peterson. She graduated from Townville High School, but her true joy came from caring for her family. She was a proud mother to her daughter, Ann Sherman of Townville, and three sons, John Sherman of Oil City, Thomas Sherman of Townville, and Scott Peterson of Cambridge Springs. She found immeasurable happiness in her role as a grandmother to Jessica, Gretta, and Zoey, and as a great-grandmother to Elijah, Theodore, and Thomas.

Shirley is survived by her siblings, including her sisters Betty Sherman of Grand Valley and Ruth (Dalton) Bond of Townville, and her brothers Gene (Mary) Sherman, Rab (Starr) Sherman, Ed (Bonnie) Sherman, Dave Sherman, and Jerry Sherman, as well as her companion Larry “Butch” Leech of Union City. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, father, Theodore; mother, Pearl; two sons, Robert and Theodore Sherman, and brothers Paul and Leroy Sherman.

In honor of Shirley’s life, there will be no formal service. Instead, she will be laid to rest at Rootville Cemetery at a later date. Her family appreciates the love and support from the community during this difficult time. Shirley will be deeply missed but always remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family.
