Resided in: Union City, Pennsylvania

Richard J. Horvath, 83, of Union City passed away on March 6, 2026 with his family at his side.

Born on May 16, 1942 in Union City he was the son of the late Julius and Helen (Sayban) Horvath.

After graduating from Union City High School, he went to trade school to become a welder where he retired as a welder for Steris Corp. in Erie.

On July 26, 1969 he married the former Shirley J. VanTassel. She preceded him in death on December 7, 2019.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Richard was an avid dirt track race fan and built his own race car. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage to work on vehicles and such but his obsession with his 1947 GMC took him to many car shows, endless rides, and a love to just show it off.

He also enjoyed being outdoors especially working in the woods cutting and splitting trees and playing around with his tractor. He also liked to hunt when he was able.

Left to cherish his memory are his children Christopher L. Horvath and his wife, Linda and Julie McClain her husband, Tom; his grandchildren Christopher L. Horvath, II and Justin McClain; many step grandchildren; and his great grandson Trenton Horvath. He is further survived by his sister Sandra Post and her husband, Roger.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his son Scott Horvath and his sister Jean Crannell.

No public services will be held and arrangements are under the care of the Warren-Glenn Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 62 S. Main Street, Union City, PA 16438.

Please take a moment to share a memory or condolence with the family on Richard’s Book of Memories online at WarrenGlennFH.com.
