Bert E. Kiskadden

Bert Kiskadden, 82, of Cooperstown was welcomed into heaven on February 10, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving family at his side.

Born on October 21, 1943 in Franklin, he was the son of the late Clarence E. and Sarah Kathryn (Wice) Kiskadden. He was born a hard worker. As a teen, he started at Turner Apple Orchard. By 16, he was working for Howard Fisher Builder where he quickly moved up the ladder and eventually owned Bert Kiskadden Builders.

Bert was a 1961 graduate of Rocky Grove High School. On February 3, 1962, he married the love of his life, the former Jane Phenicie and she survives. They recently celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Bert had a passion for building things and was a well known contractor in the area. When “Bert The Builder’s” hands weren’t busy on his own projects, he could often be found at other construction job sites to learn new techniques or to admire the quality workmanship or the different stages of the construction. Sometimes, he would jump in and give a hand if needed.

He was a member of the Atlantic Avenue UB Church where he was instrumental in building the church’s Family Center. His devotion to community didn’t end there, he also helped build the handicapped accessible bathroom at Two Mile Run and someone needed help with a project, he was there. His desire for helping the community kept him lively until his health wouldn’t allow it but his spirit burned bright.

Bert was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan. He enjoyed playing softball and even played in the 55+ League. Mowing on his John Deere tractor was a favorite pastime and he enjoyed taking family and friends on annual hay rides.

He could tell stories with great detail and was intrigued with the connections he made with people such as their family history. Most of all, his own family was his world and he enjoyed and cherished every moment he could get with them.

Left to cherish his memory, along with his wife, Jane, are his daughters Cathy Osborne of Franklin, Kim Masters (Frank) of Cooperstown and Rita Winger (Jeff Thurau) of Franklin; his grandchildren Nicholas (Dani) Garcia, Carley Osborne, Isaiah Osborne, Alex Osborne, Anna Osborne, Benjamin Osborne, Matt Masters, Danielle Masters (Barrett Holcomb), Amber Gough (Chris), Megan Porter (Mike), Bradley Daly (Kaylee), and Hayley Masters; his 8 great grandchildren; his siblings C. Richard Kiskadden (Marsha) of Franklin, and Mary Lou Wood of Texas; his brother-in-law Gary Howe of Texas; his sister-in-law Lucy Seefried of Indiana as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Shirley Howe; his parents-in-law Don “A.D” and Gladys Phenicie; his nephews Kevin Howe and Jason Wood; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Guests will be received at the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Friday, February 13th from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm. Services will be held at the Atlantic Avenue Church, 160 Atlantic Avenue, Franklin on Saturday, February 14th at 11:00 am with Pastor Brad Riddle and Assoc. Pastor Jason Peterson officiating.

Bert will be laid to rest in Old Sandy Cemetery, Polk.
