We are heartbroken to share that Helen Jean Sanchez, 95, of Union City, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, at Saint Vincent Hospital. Born on April 21, 1930, in Erie, Pennsylvania, she lived a full life, touching the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Helen was the beloved daughter of Carl F. Sedmina and Otylie Klus, and a proud graduate of Union City High School and Hamot School of Nursing. Her career as a nurse took her to hospitals in Chicago, Denver, and a teaching hospital in Albuquerque. She even served as a nursing supervisor at Corry Hospital, where she made lasting friendships and impacted countless lives.

Growing up in the Catholic faith, Helen loved life and embraced each moment. She picked up skiing at the age of 70, enjoying the thrill of the outdoors, long evenings around the campfire, and treasured time spent with family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her immense joy, and she took great pride in all their achievements.

Helen is survived by her daughter Jeanelen Kuhl and her companion David DeJulia of Union City, her daughter Jolyda Swaim and her husband Rick of Moneta, Virginia, as well as her grandchildren James Kuhl and his wife Christa, Katrina Kuhl and her companion John Ohorodnyk, and Travis Swaim and his wife Alyssa. She also cherished her great-grandchildren Levi Morris and the Kuhl siblings, Brenna and Brea. Helen was preceded in death by her parents. A private service will be held, and Helen will be laid to rest at Saint Teresa Cemetery in Union City.

    • Dear Kathy and Dick,

Thank you! Mom had a good life and we were very blessed to have her for as long as we did – and she was relatively healthy as well. I am happy she had the opportunity to get to know Alyssa and spend some time with her. They talked to her on Christmas as well.

Again, thank you and take care!
