William J. “Sonny” Wheeler, 77, of Franklin, PA, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, at UPMC Seneca. Born on May 31, 1948, in Franklin, he was the son of William L. “Louie” Wheeler and Marian Shingledecker Wheeler.

Sonny had a big heart and a love for life, evident in his many passions. He drove trucks for 46 years at Shingledecker Welding and served his country proudly in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Sonny also loved talking politics and cherished his time with his grandchildren, Mark, Andrew (Kayleah Wilhem), Travis, Aleeah, and Emma, along with five great-grandchildren, a brother Jeff Wheeler (Cindy) of Stoneboro, many nieces and nephews, and his loyal dog Buster, and grand dog Abby.

Sonny was married three times: first to Karen Wygant Wheeler, who passed away in 2007; then to Sandy Hovis Wheeler, who preceded him in death in 2011; and finally, to Dorinda Eakin Wheeler, whom he married in 2013 and who remains by his side in remembrance. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Guestbook

  1. I’m sure going to miss you; all the fun we had going fishing on sandy creek till 1or2 in the morning. And the sandy lake diner, that old 1955 ford you had. all that hay we put up on steve’s farm, the good old days.
rest in peace bud they don’t any better than you.

  2. Our deepest sympathy for Dorinda, Angela and Randy. He was a great person and neighbor. Always had the time to stop and talk or help with things when able. Still ride over in his golfcart or call to let us know the bear was in the back yard.. We will always remember his little chuckle of a laugh.

  3. May God grant your family a deep peace and comfort in this difficult time. We will always remember what a blessing Sonny was to our church in helping the Trustees keep the place looking nice. Never saw him without a smile. He will be greatly missed.
