It is with heavy hearts that we celebrate the life of Ronald L. Bowen, an extraordinary soul who graced this world for 85 vibrant years. Born on December 9, 1939, in the small town of Corry, Pennsylvania, he was the beloved son of Merrill A. and Doris M. Tarbell Bowen. A proud graduate of Union City High School, he went on to pursue his passion for education at Edinboro State College, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
Ronald dedicated over three decades of his life to teaching English and Drama at Warren Area High School, where his impact touched countless students. Known affectionately as the “Glad Man,” he found joy in growing thousands of gladiolus and sharing their beauty with others. He spent his time creating his very own varieties and achieved his dream of having them introduced in the gladiolus catalog. His passion for the arts shined brightly as he directed numerous plays, bringing stories to life both at Warren and one time in Union City alongside the talented Rosemary Obert.
Family meant the world to Ron. He cherished moments spent with his loved ones, including his sisters, Judith Goforth, Kay Manno (John), and Janice Keefer (Neil), along with a whole host of adoring nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He also enjoyed unforgettable trips to Thailand, where memories were made and laughter was shared.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a great niece, Kendra Roscinski.
Ronald will be remembered not only for his contributions to education and the arts but also for the warmth and kindness he extended to all. He leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and unwavering dedication.
