It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Earl Dawson, 68, of Union City. Surrounded by his loving family, Tom journeyed to be with his heavenly father on Saturday, October 4, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Much thanks to the AHN Cancer Center for their loving care. Tom was Born on May 27, 1957, in Erie, PA, He was preceded in death by his parents; Earl and Elizabeth Dawson, an infant son, Dustin Dawson,; and his mother-in-law, Sylvia Troyer.
Tom was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Tom’s family will carry on his legacy of laughter & support. In addition to his wife, Kim; he will be lovingly remembered by his children Ashley Berger and her husband Eric of New Wilmington, Tyler Dawson and his wife Macy of Elgin, Savanna Strick and her husband Benjamin of Union City. He was papa Flamingo to his three grand-daughters, Ava Berger, Adalyn Berger, and Hailey Strick; and expected Baby Girl Dawson coming in January of 2026. He will be missed by a sister, Judy Nelson of Waterford; his father-in-law, Norman Troyer; his brothers & sister-in-law Tom & Heather Hornaman, Jeffrey Troyer and nieces & nephews.
Tom graduated in 1975 from Ft LeBeouf High School. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Edinboro University where he served as captain of his college Track & Field team. He also attended Penn State University and Gannon University where he studied Physics and Engineering. He shared many memories, lifelong friendships, and successes in his job as a Mechanical Engineer and Boiler Inspector with Snaptite, Chromalox, and Hartford Steam Boiler. Tom enjoyed spending time with customers while working at the Union City Beverage Company which he owned with his wife & son..
He started an epic partnership built on joy and respect when he married Kimberlie J. Troyer, on January 14, 1984. Together they built a vibrant and loving family that extended out into the community. In addition to his children, the Dawson family grew over the years with the addition of his European exchange daughters, Tatiana, Alina and Inkeri. Tom loved his children’s friends like his own and especially loved the Mercyhurst Football boys, Kevin & Steve who knew him as “Biggs” because he was bigger than life. His family was her greatest achievement and he found so much joy in attending his children & grandchildren’s sporting & music events.
Tom had a huge love for the Union City community. Tom’s faith was always present due to the support of his church family at the First Global Methodist Church in Union City. Tom was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time at the Union City Country Club, where he served on the board of directors. He spent many years volunteering with the UC Little League and enjoyed coaching several youth sports. Tom also enjoyed traveling to places like Australia, China & Italy. Tom truly loved life and the people in it. He cherished each day spent with family and friends. He loved wearing his orange shirts and camo crocs on family beach vacations. Those who knew him felt his special connections and appreciated his generosity and kind soul. Tom’s sincerity and love for his family and community will be missed but never forgotten.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Tom’s life at a visitation on October 10, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the First Global Methodist Church, 42 East High St., Union City;. A memorial service will follow at the same location at 5:00 PM, where we will share stories and memories with Pastor John Mize, officiating. Afterward, family and friends are invited to a Luau themed celebration of Tom’s life from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM at the American Legion, 9225 US-6, Union City. A private burial will occur at a later time at Evergreen Cemetery, Union City.
