Ruth E. Baker

July 31, 1932 ~ July 30, 2025

Born in: Sugarcreek Borough, Pennsylvania
Resided in: Franklin, Pennsylvania

Ruth E. Baker of Franklin passed away on July 30, 2025 at Sugar Creek Care Center, a day short of her 93rd birthday.

She was born Evelyn Ruth Cathers on July 31, 1932 to Charles H. Cathers and Josephine M. Griggs in Sugarcreek Township.

Ruth was predeceased by her loving husband, William B. Baker, Jr., who passed away on October 29, 2014. She was also predeceased by her only child, her dear son, Michael D. Cathers, of Delmar, NY, who died suddenly on September 15, 2022.

Ruth and Bill were married on November 29, 1958 in the parsonage of the former First Evangelical United Brethren Church. After retiring from Polk Center, where they had worked side by side for many years, Ruth and Bill enjoyed gardening and “day trips” together. They were especially proud of their lovely roses and delicious tomatoes. Ruth also enjoyed canning and baking. She looked forward to visits from family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored. She was blessed with caring neighbors who made it possible for her to remain at home into her nineties, most especially Scott Nespor. Her family is forever grateful to them and to the caring staff at Sugar Creek Care Center and AseraCare Hospice.

Ruth is survived by her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Kearns, her grandchildren, Samantha (Cathers) Cassidy, Allison Cathers, and Nicholas Cathers, three great-grandchildren, and her former daughter-in-law, Gloria Jean, all of whom live in New York.

At Ruth’s request, there will be no public services and a Celebration of Ruth’s life will be held privately in New York.

Ruth will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, alongside her beloved husband.

Arrangements are in the care of the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, PA 16323.
