Maryetta Dutko, 90, of Cooperstown, passed away on May 13, 2025 at UPMC Northwest with her family at her side.
Born on October 29, 1934 in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Wawrzonek) Waldman.
She was a graduate of Muhlenberg Township High School. Maryetta met the love of her life, Michael Dutko, Jr., at a USO dance in Indiantown Gap. Shortly thereafter they were married and off to start their family. Michael passed away on February 5, 1989.
When the children were older, Maryetta went back to school to become a nurse. For many years, she worked at the Franklin Hospital and enjoyed her calling. After retiring from the nursing field, she became involved with the Cooperstown library since she loved to read and became the town staple as the librarian and tax preparer for the community.
She was a faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Baking was a favorite pastime for her where she was known by many for her cookies, Baklava, and her Paska. Traditions she instilled were different annually themed Christmas trees; Jesus’s birthday cake; a traditional Easter Basket that included a butter lamb, ham, Paska, and Hrudka; hidden Easter Baskets; sending cards for holidays, birthdays, and the like; but the tradition she enjoyed the most was dinner at the table with her family starting with a prayer. Many that know her will remember her fond admiration for Pinocchio.
She enjoyed working in her vegetable garden where she planted at least three rows of beans. The bounty harvested would be canned along with her homemade raspberry jam.
Left to carry on her traditions is her daughter, Ann Breth and her husband, Brian, of North Carolina; her sister Carol Sigler and her husband, Rich, of Florida; her daughters-in-law Sandy Dutko of Hermitage and Tina Dutko of North Carolina; her grandchildren Jimmy Dutko of Cooperstown, Ben Dutko and his wife, Michelle, of Titusville, Andy Dutko of Bradford, Danny McDonough and his wife (Josie) of Florida, Abbey Deneen of Stoneboro, and Anna Irvine and her husband, Matt, of South Carolina; and her great grandchildren Chelsey Dutko, Brooke Dutko, Tim McDonough, Sophie McDonough, James Irvine, Emmalyn Irvine, and Mara Deneen.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons James and Michael Dutko and her daughter Mary Beth McDonough.
Guests are invited to the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Saturday, May 17th from 9 am to 10 am.
