Irene Minerva Hetzler, 88, of Polk passed away peacefully at Sugar Creek Care Center on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
Born on May 10, 1938 in Tryonville, PA, she was the eldest daughter of the late Rev. Marvin and Isabell M. Brown VanCise.
She was a 1956 graduate of New Castle High School.
On June 16, 1956, she married the love of her life, Glenn B. Hetzler with whom she shared 63 years of marriage before his death on October 9, 2018.
Irene found joy in her Christian faith and in caring for her beloved family and friends.
She enjoyed cooking and baking. She and Glenn hosted many beautiful holiday meals for family and friends.
Irene’s hobbies included sewing, crocheting and reading. With her green thumb, she had beautiful flowers and a large garden for many years. She also enjoyed camping with family and friends at Clear Creek Campgrounds in Cook’s Forest. Her grandchildren fondly recall those camping trips, good food, and much laughter.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Nancy Letonek (Marshall) and Jerry Hetzler; her grandchildren Ryan Hetzler, Tiea Hetzler, Angie (Matthew) Oberman, Regina Letonek, Jon (Jenn) Letonek, Trisha (John) Martin; and her 7 great-grandchildren; her siblings Clyde VanCise, Beatrice Potts, and Mary Ellen Girty; her sister-in-law Bonnie Hetzler; and many nieces, nephews, and life long friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Catherine Bishop.
Upon the family’s request, visitation and funeral services were private and arrangements are in the care of the Gardinier-Warren Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, PA.
Irene was laid to rest next to her husband in Rockland Cemetery.

Irene M. Hetzler is my oldest sister. I am going to miss her so much. One correction to her Obituary. She attended high school up to the 11th grade in New Castle, Pennsylvania. In 1956, Irene graduated from high school in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania, not in New Castle.
May God give you comfort knowing she is with our Lord and Savior Jesus. She will be missed and her love will live on froever. God bless you through these times. Condolences, Randy and Barb Doyle
