October 6, 1918 ~ May 2, 2023

Born in: Centerville, PA

Frances C. Werling, 104, peacefully passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, with family nearby. Frances was born on October 6, 1918, to Loyal and Myrtle Creacraft of Athens township. Her siblings Raymond Creacraft and Margaret Creacraft Kingston preceded her in death. She earned a Teaching Certificate from Edinboro State Teachers College which led to her teaching multiple grade students in the Steuben Township’s one room schoolhouse. Given her longevity, she has outlived many of her students. She married Harry Werling on October 26, 1940. They had one child, a daughter, DeAn, normally a Ponte Vedra, FL resident. Frances was primarily a homemaker, but also served as a bookkeeper for their Central Garage & B-Construction business, in Townville, PA. But, if you ask her what her primary business duties were, she would say that she was a “gofer” for much of her time! She served many community organizations. First, and most important to her, the Townville United Methodist Church, which she supported in many ways. Her other dedicated commitments included the Eastern Star, the DAR and the Bidwell Family Association, for which she served many years on the Board of Directors. Her hobbies or interests included family history, antiques, collectables, sewing & stitchery, refinishing old furniture, traveling, and baking great pies! She is survived by her daughter, DeAn, son-in-law, John Foulk; nieces, Rene' Kingston and Marlene Hover; nephews, Eric Kingston and Irwin Creacraft; grandchildren, Jennifer Rambler & Jessica Walsh; and six great-grandchildren, Rachel, Brooke & Cole Rambler and Jack, William and Cameron Walsh. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, on September 30, 1991; sister, Margaret ‘Marnie’ Kingston, and brother, Raymond Creacraft. 1. Q: What will you never forget about Frances?

A: No matter what she would make sure she didn’t get anything on her clothing she didn’t like it. And she didn’t like anyone see her in her pj’s. I remember every day she would ask if we was going to go to the fair she never miss fair time she was an outgoing, loving and caring woman. Prayers to her family and friends

  2. Sincere condolences to Francis’ family on the loss of their loved one. Francis was a staple, a friend, and a Christian in many people’s lives in and around Townville. Always a hug and a welcome when my husband John and I would come back home to visit and see Francis at church. She was a great dear friend of my Mother-In-Law, Virginia. In fact, her husband, Harry was my school bus driver when I was growing up. Always the good memories of Francis and Harry will always be with me as they were loved by many. A welcome to heaven is awaiting your dear Francis.

  3. Francis had a wonderful long, life! I’m sure a lot of that is due to having such a wonderful family to support her. She will certainly be missed!

  4. DeAn and family, I am sorry for your loss of an amazing woman. She was a true Christian and a wonderful example to all who knew her. I loved spending time with her, whether we were working in her yard, digging up flowers or going to the fair. I have such fond memories of Francis and think of her often. So special she was.

  5. I am so sorry for your loss of Frances. She was a very special lady. I always enjoyed visiting her at Wesbury. She was so proud that I was from Athens Township! She shared many stories and memories.I always needed to allow a lot of time for she LOVED to talk! It was a pleasure to listen! I truly will miss our visits.

  6. As my brother, Jim, said when I told him of Frances passing, “She was a lovely woman.” We grew up in Townville and knew Frances our whole lives. When my husband and I lived in Townville in the 1960s I did some sewing for Frances. When she was at Wesbury and we attended DAR meetings we often sat together and would reminisce about the old days in Townville. When my Dad died she told me Townville had lost its historian. She was a great historian for Townville as well. I will always treasure the times I spent with Frances.

  7. Dear DeAn
I was richly blessed the time I spent with Miss Frances.
I think she is a Ladies Lady.
    So wonderful! Thank you.

  8. I met Frances on her 102nd birthday and got to see her two or three times a week over the next two and a half years. Despite a nearly 40 year difference in our ages, I like to think we became good friends. She was a great neighbor and had such a kind soul. I will miss visiting with her very much.

  9. Anyone who grew up in and around Townville knew Frances or knew of her. It was a familiar sight to pull up to the gas pumps at the family business and out would come Frances. Most of us would pump our own gas while talking with her. She knew almost everyone in and around the area. May the Lord look on her with favor.
