Richard "Dean" Hughes, 89, of Seneca, passed away on January 2, 2019 at the Caring Place in Franklin.He was born on August 3, 1929 in Rockland to John C. Hughes, Sr. and Ida Mae (Gates) Hughes.Richard proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard. He was also a steelworker for J & L Steel.In his spare time, Richard enjoyed watching dirt track racing and going to the casino. He was also a member of the Eagles, the Free Masons, and the New Castle Consistory.Richard is survived by his 3 sons, James Hughes and his wife, Shirley, of Hadley, Jeff Hughes of Transfer, and Joel Hughes and his wife, Tina, of Hermitage; his grandchildren, James Hughes II and his wife, Michelle, Marci Waleff and her husband, Steve, Autumn Bees, CharAnn Lawrinson, Robin Hughes and his wife, Taylor, Joel Hughes II and, Jen, and Jessica Lewis and her husband, Matt.He is further survived by his 9 great-grandchildren; his 2 great-great-grandchildren; his sister Betty Brooks of Franklin; and several nieces and a nephew.Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John C. Hughes, Jr.Family and friends will be received on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 1 pm to 2 pm at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, PA 16323.
