David E. Young Sr., 76, of 724 Baker Hill Road ,Franklin died at 12:43 AM ,January 06, 2013 at his residence. Born July 16, 1936 in Franklin, PA, David was the son of the late Charles and Arvilla (Hedglin) Young. On June 13, 1959 he married Nancy A. Shorts. David was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Local Union #66. He also worked at and owned several area garages. David showed and drove teams of mules and horses with his family and friends. He spent many years as a blacksmith shoeing horses, and being involved with 4H activities. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and hunting. In addition to his wife, David is survived by his sons, David E. Young Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of Utica, and Ralph L. Young and his wife, Rhonda, of Franklin; his daughters, Alice Cricket Dignall of Carlton, Ethel Raine Young of Tucson, AZ, Amy Fenstmaker and her husband, Donald, of Utica, and Gail Shelhamer and her husband, Jason Shorty, of Carlton. He is additionally survived by his fifteen grandchildren, Joy Dignall and her fiance, Luke Sedar; Zina Smith and her husband, Barry; Sam Dignall; Beth Vernon and her husband, Isaiah; Amber Spencer; David Young III and his fiance, Samantha Buzzard; Jaimee Stainbrook and her husband, Rex; Marshall Young; Charley Young; Austin Young; Nicci Fenstmaker; Darin Fenstmaker; Travis Fenstmaker; Abby Shelhamer; and Tess Shelhamer; and his two great-grandchildren, Jazzalynn Stainbrook, and Noah Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ruth Krepp; an infant grandchild, Lindsey Lorraine Young; and a son-in-law, David Dignall. Family and friends of David will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Tuesday, January 8th, 2013, from 3:00PM - 7:00PM. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 9th, 2013 at Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., with Rev. David Smith pastor of the Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Sorry to hear of Davids passing. He will be greatly missed. We will always remember him from the fairs and other horse functions that he was at. Our sympathies go out to the family.
