Thomas Leroy Sloss Thomas Leroy Sloss, 66, of 1150 Otter Street, in Franklin, died Sunday, October 11, 2009 at 11:30 p.m., at UPMC Northwest following a battle with cancer. Born December 11, 1942 in Titusville, PA, he was the son of Lillian VanValkenberg Puleo and Thomas R. and G. Eileen Sloss of Franklin. He attended Franklin High School and was a member of the undefeated 1960 football team. He graduated from Titusville High School in 1961. He was employed as a PA State Trooper and retired after spending many years as an over-the-road truck driver. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene of Franklin. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, and spending time with his family. He was married on July 27, 1998 to Mary Hines who survives. Also surviving are a son, Thomas W. Sloss and his wife, Lori, of Franklin; a daughter, Sheryl Roberts, and her husband, Bryan, of Witchita Falls, Texas; step-son, Allen Wolfgong, and his wife, Dawn, of Rocky Grove; step-son Ed Wolfgong, and his wife, Melissa of Oil City; and step-daughter, Susan Fox, and her husband, Adam of Rocky Grove. He is also survived by a brother, Earl "Bud" VanValkenburg, and his wife, Carol of Ravenna, Ohio and the following grandchildren: Tom and Casey Sloss of Franklin; Justin Wolfgong of Franklin; Evan Wolfgong of Oil City; Jessie Wolfgong and Noah Fox of Rocky Grove; Jordan Hershbine of Alabama; and Zach Roberts of Witchita Falls, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert VanValkenberg, Friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc.,1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 15 at 11:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Smith, pastor of the Franklin Church of the Nazarene presiding. Interment will follow at Cooperstown Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to the VNA Foundation, 491 Allegheny Blvd., Franklin PA 16323 and/or the Franklin Church of the Nazarene. Dad always loved the open road and missed it so much in the last few months of confinement.
Now he can ride on the wings of angels.
