Harold C. Prichard, 85, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.He was born on November 15, 1932 in Franklin to Haven and Gladys (Brown) Prichard. Harold was a 1950 graduate of Oil City High School. After his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army Paratrooper where he served in the Korean War Era and received his Paratrooper Badge and his National Defense Service Medal; he was later honorably discharged in 1955.On November 22, 1952, Harold married the love of his life, Mary B. Bowersox, and she survives him.Harold worked as a machinist and in maintenance for Franklin Steel for 38 years and also worked for J & L Steel in Oil City. He was also the proud partner in the ownership of Prichard's Auto Sales in Dempseytown, PA. In his spare time, Harold kept himself busy with a variety of activities. He was an active member and trustee of the Oakland United Methodist Church; a past Master for the Masonic Lodge #483 in Rouseville; a member of the Oil City Lodge of Perfection; a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, Dempseytown lodge; and a member of the Oakland Volunteer Fire Department.He also enjoyed racing cars; playing softball, where he participated in the 35 and over league and the 55 and over league; hunting, especially elk hunting in Colorado and local fox hunting; his Jeep Club; traveling to Florida; but most of all, he loved the time he spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by his son, Tom Prichard and his wife, Leanne, of Franklin; his four grandchildren, Dan Prichard and his wife, Angel, of Titusville, Amanda Braun and her husband, Matthew, of Cooperstown, John Prichard of Silverdale, WA, and Tiffany Mitcham and her husband, David, of Franklin; and his six great-grandchildren.He is further survived by his brother, Robert Prichard and his wife, Kathy, of Franklin; his sister Twilla Snyder of The Caring Place in Franklin; his Sister-In-Law, Lois Prichard of Cooperstown; and several nieces and nephews.Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his son, John L. Prichard; his brother, Ralph Prichard; and his Brother-In-Law, Richard Snyder; and his step-father, Harold Speer.Family and friends will be received on Friday, October 26, 2018 from 3 pm to 7 pm and Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 1 pm to 2 pm at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, PA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc. at 2 pm with Reverend Tucker, pastor of the Oakland United Methodist Church, officiating. Military Honors will accorded by the V.E.T.S. Dear Prichard family,
My condolences for you and yours during this time of grief. I was out of town and caught up on the papers today and wish I could have been there to offer a shoulder for comfort and a smile to ease the sorrow. Harold had a unique laugh (which I tried evoke many times) and I always enjoyed his ‘sly’ look…when his eyes would squint and the one corner of his smile would turn up…then grin. Although we were only teammates for a few years (I couldn’t keep up) he was one of the most memorable.
