George E. Hook

George Hook, 80, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at his home in Franklin. He was born February 28, 1937 to the late Henry J. and Mary Stark Hook in Fryburg, PA. George was a 1955 graduate of Franklin High School. On April 12, 1958, he married the former Nancy A. Beach, and they shared 59 years together. They loved to travel together in their motor home with their family, and they made many trips out west to visit multiple National Parks. Additionally, they traveled to Fort Wilderness and spent many trips visiting Mickey Mouse, in Disney World. George made many trips over the years to Montana, Colorado and New Mexico to hunt. His family wonders if he may have just enjoyed the companionship of his friends, cooking sandwiches over the fire and the scenery of being in the wild. His family spent many summers fishing on Lake Wilhem on their pontoon boat. Fond memories were made there, and will be cherished always.George proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1969.George worked for many years at Chicago Pneumatic Tool as a supervisor and retired after nearly 24 years. He also owned Hook's Meat Processing. He always had a passion for smoking meats and cooking on the grill as well as woodworking.George was a manager and coach of many T-ball and baseball teams over the years. He also enjoyed spending time with the boy scouts and especially helping out with Troop 34. Left to cherish George's memory are his loving wife, Nancy; his son, George R. Hook of North East, PA; his daughter, Mary E. Edwards (Dr. William Edwards), of Franklin. Also, surviving are his brother; Eugene A. Hook of Fernandina Beach, FL, and three grandchildren; Nicholas Rex, Christopher Rex, and Erin M. Edwards, as well as many nieces and nephews. George is preceded in death by his parents, a brother; John Henry Hook; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hook, and a great-niece, Bridget Hook. Memorial contributions are asked to be sent to the charity on ones choice in George's memory. Visitation will be held at Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, December 15, 2017, from 4:00 - 8:00 PMA Christian wake service will be held at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday, December 15, 2017, at 4:30 PM with Deacon Richard Reed officiating. At the conclusion of visitation proper military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. A funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick's church on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at 11:00 am with Monsignor John Herbein officiating.Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Friends and Family are invited to visit www.gardinierfuneralhome.com to send cards, flowers and share condolences with the family.








George was an amazing man.A great true friend a true man to his word. I have so many great memories of our times hunting togather. Every day we spent in the woods was always a new adventure and we always left laughing at something we would do. In gonna miss him badly. Travel in peace George.May you forever rest in eternal peace. So VERY sorry for your loss. He will be missed very much !! He was the BEST butcher around and was always such a joy to talk to. Prayer for all of you !
We will remember George as a kind and understanding person. Many years he came to our farm to remove our pigs and beef for processing. Thank you George. Go rest high on the mountain. Our deepest condolences to Nancy and the family.
