To all of the Doutt families. My heart goes out to you in this adifficult time. Our parent were great friends for many years. Even at my Dads death she was there for us. She even came to see him in the hospital. She kissed him and told us, he was waiting on me to come to see him. She will be greatly missed. But she is with all that passed before her. Dear David, Dana, Nancy Jean, Uncle Dave, Aunt Doe, family and friends,
May the good Lord comfort all of us through his Word during this time of sadness over the loss of your Mom, sister, and our dear Aunt Jean.
I did not get to visit with her as much as I would have liked over the years but when I did it was always like stepping back in time as a kid. The last time I saw her was three years ago at my Dad’s funeral almost to the day. She never changed- down to earth, but dignified, always respectfully well dressed. She was the same loving, caring aunt that I knew growing up. She always took sincere interest in our lives and well being, was always supportive. She always called me “honey” even when I had reached the tender age of 57! I did not mind. She loved all of us that way. I regret that my sons did not have the opportunity to meet her.
My Dad loved her. They often laughed together over my Dad’s many jokes and amusing stories. I can still can hear her distinctive voice and laugh- pure western Pennsylvanian. I would not doubt they are sharing a laugh together now in heaven as we speak.
She completely wrote and typed my first resume which got me an interview to secure my first degree related job in Houston with a good company that I worked 25 years for. What a blessing! I still have a copy of that resume. I will never forget her kindness for that and the tremendous goodness to me that resulted.
She enjoyed sharing with me about her Texas experience when she lived in San Antonio while Uncle Knute was in the military. I especially remember her laughing about buying a Christmas tree wearing shorts because it was 80 degrees.
She was the family matriarch- always taking the lead to organize family reunions and get togethers. Her remarkable legacy is her family and her friends, and above all, her faith in Christ, her Savior. You can not do much more in life than that- to have faith, family, and friends.
Lou Holtz, former Notre Dame football coach challenges people to evaluate their lives by asking, “if you didn’t go home tonight or go to work tomorrow, would anyone miss you?” He meant more that just missing your work production or the money you bring home. Do you care about people? Have you helped to make them better? Aunt Jean I can answer a resounding, “yes” to both for you and I thank God for blessing us through you. May your life serve to inspire all of us to do better, to do our best.
I am proud of you Aunt Jean and will miss you, but by God’s grace will see you again.
Love,
Your nephew,
Dale
