Ronald Burkhardt, 87, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on October 23, 2017. He was born on October 13, 1930, in Bradford, PA to the late Walter and Nolene Swatzler Burkhardt. He was married September 4, 1954, to Patricia Hartle Burkhardt, who survives him. Left to cherish his memory are his children; Debra Mook and her husband Robert of Polk, Ronda Schengber and her husband James of Cincinnati, OH and Thomas Burkhardt and his wife Connie of Polk, and a sister; Cheryl Knox and her husband Don of Franklin. Seven grandchildren; Brian Mook of Polk, Andrew Schengber of IN, Allison Schengber of OH, Lauren Burkhardt of DE, Tyler Burkhardt of KY, Brandon Burkhardt and his wife Taylor of Cooperstown, and Karley Emeigh of Franklin and one great-grandson; Brayden Burkhardt as well as a baby boy who will join the family in the new year. Mr. Burkhardt was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother; Gertrude Burkhardt, a brother; Billy Lee Burkhardt and a half-brother; Richard Burkhardt. Ron worked for Joy manufacturing as an expeditor and retired after 40 years of service. Most of Ron's life was committed to serving the community. Ron was a member of the Sandycreek Township Volunteer Fire Department and Fire Police for 57 years serving as treasurer for 40 years. Also, he was an EMA coordinator for Sandycreek Township for 5 years. Ron's love of community was evident, and he passed that passion on to his family, who still is active.Ron also enjoyed playing softball. It was a hobby that didn't end as he aged. He was a founder of the 55 and over Softball League and played up until 2016 (Age 85) when he had to turn in his glove and cleats.Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00-7:00 pm. A Christian wake service will be held at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 4:00 pm with Deacon Richard O'Polka officiating. A funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick's church on Friday, October 27, 2017, at 11:00 am with Monsignor John Herbein officiating. Burial will conclude the services at St. Patrick's Cemetery, in Franklin.     Sorry to learn of Ron’s passing. Ron will be missed. Our families from been friends for so long I can remember get togethers and time spent with the Burkhardt family back when I was a kid.
