Eleanor M. Hitchcock, 96, formerly of Seneca, passed away at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Oakwood Heights in Oil City, where she had resided for the past year.Born September 23, 1921 in West Home (Emlenton), PA, Eleanor was the daughter of the late William and Ruth Anna Webster Heeter. She was married to M. James Hitchcock who preceded her in death.Eleanor enjoyed people and had numerous friends and acquaintances all over the tri-state are. She worked as a server in the food industry for more than 40 years, and loved to cook and bake pies. She was a gifted musician, and since the age of 6 up to this past Christmas, she was able to play the piano "by ear". She also enjoyed playing bingo and getting in her car and going for drives.Mrs. Hitchcock is survived by her son, Gary W. Carnahan and his wife, Judi, of Brockway, VA; her 3 daughters, Cynthia L. Collins and her fiance, David Hassay, of Boardman, OH, Margaret Christine Knapp of Franklin, and Carol Tantlinger and her husband, Terry, also of Franklin; her 12 grandchildren, Cassie Young and her husband, Andy, Tyler Carnahan, Maureen Carnahan, Christopher Snyder, Gary Collins and his wife, Christa, Corinna Knapp, Carissa Knapp, Richard Roberts and his wife, Kelly, Beth Martin and her husband, Russ, Amanda Tantlinger and her fiance, Jonathan Lasko, Robert Tantlinger and his wife, Shelley, and Jessica Tantlinger and her fiance, Joe Bubenheim; her numerous great-grandchildren; and her 5 great-great-grandchildren.She is also survived by her brother, William Heeter and his wife, Aileen, of Rockland; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.In addition to her husband and parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her 2 brothers, Wayne Heeter and Jack Heeter; her 4 sisters, Dorothy Switzer, Beatrice Shaffer, Wilma June Bump and an infant sister; and her 3 grandchildren, Stacy Snyder, Sean Carnahan, and Benjamin Roberts.Family and friends of Eleanor will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, PA on Monday, February 26th from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. noon.Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, February 26th at 12:00 p.m. noon following visitation with Rev. William Hastings, pastor of the Seneca United Methodist Church, officiating. To Eleanor’s family, Sending my sympathy to each of you at this difficult time. I am a distant relative, my Father being Kenneth Webster who was the son of Vance Webster. My dad & Eleanor were first cousins.
