Rev. Malcolm Shurat Vandevort, Jr.Malcolm was born in Piittsburgh, PA on July 29, 1921. He is the husband of Martha Maxwell Vandevort. For the past three years they made their home with their daughter, Peggy Hamm.Following graduation from seminary, Rev. Vandevort served two small congregations in Kansas for four years and then became a missionary to Ethiopia under the United Presbyterian Church where he served for 22 years. Upon return to the US he pastored Concord and Mt Zion United Presbyterian churches near Kittanning, PA for nine years and then in semi-retirement moved to Weirton, WV, to serve Oakland Presbyterian Church. Malcolm fully retired and moved to Sheakleyville in Mercer County where he enjoyed gardening and participated in supply pastoring at churches in the area including St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Knox, PA.Malcolm is survived by his wife, Martha Maxwell Vandevort,and children Peggy Hamm (Glenn) of Franklin, PA, Rachel Weller (Michael) missionaries to Ethiopia, David Vandevort (Lynn) of Painesville, OH, and Ellen Wolf (Karl) of Long Island City, NY along with one sister, Eleanor C Vandevort, 19 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. and several nieces and nephews. Malcolm was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Vandevort who was married to Lisa Yandle of Charlotte, NC as well as his parents, Malcolm S. & Margaret C. Sauer Vandevort and a sister, Jeannette V. Boyd. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Franklin, PA on Wed., July 8, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Malcolm was a veteran of WWII. Burial will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, PA.
