James E. Greggs, Jr. 52, of Cooperstown, passed away at his residence on Sunday, June 8, 2014 surrounded by his loving family, following an illness.Born February 13, 1962, in Franklin, he was the son of James E. and Sandra Sparks Greggs. He was married to the former Cynthia M. Cherry who survives. James was employed as a Union Laborer with Laborers International Union Local #323 in Butler for over 30 years prior to his retirement. James was a member of the F.O.E. Eagles #328. He enjoyed discussing politics and talking about his work with the Laborers Union. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.In addition to his wife, James is survived by his sons, James Jacob Greggs and Tyler Nash Greggs; and his daughter, Paige Madison Greggs, all of Cooperstown. He is also survived by his brothers, Melvin "Gunner" Tate of Franklin and Rev. Otis Tate of Ohio; his sisters, Penny Karns and her husband, Dale, of Harborcreek, Tina Greggs Deschambeau of Oil City, Lisa Tate of Franklin, and Angela Phillips of North Carolina; and his step-father, Melvin Tate of Franklin. James was preceded in death by his parents and his paternal grandparents, Twila and Floyd Greggs.Family and friends of James will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Thursday, June 12 from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, June 13 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Otis Tate, officiating.   3. Jacob, Tyler and Family, I was saddened to hear of Jimmy’s passing. He was a great friend and union brother. When you worked with Jimmy everyday was a new adventure with lots of laughs.   5. I was very sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. I remember him fondly from when I was a little girl, up on the “hill” at Dick and “Cese’s” house!

    As the years passed, his daughter, Paige and my daughter became friends and here we go again with another generation of our families being friends!
