Robert E. Heckard

Robert Edward Heckard, age 84, of Elon, North Carolina, died Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, NC. The son of Ralph and Florence Irene Stadler Heckard he was born October 10, 1928 in Franklin, PA. Mr. Heckard had lived in Willoughby, Ohio from 1957 to 1986, having then lived in Elon, North Carolina from 1986 to present. He had been employed as an electrician by General Motors for many years prior to his retirement in 1986. A veteran of the Korean War, he had served as Sergeant in the National Guard stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Willoughby Masonic Lodge #302. Surviving is his wife, Harriet Mae Glenn Heckard, whom he married May 9, 1953; two daughters, Deborah Koeth and husband Richard of Mentor, OH; Carol Hood and husband Richard of Twinsburg, OH; five grandchildren, Richard Koeth and wife Denise of OH, Robert Koeth and wife Kim of OH, Amanda Lynam and husband Garret of NY; Chelsey and Kentric Hood, both of Twinsburg, OH; and a great-grandson, Alden Scott Koeth. He was preceded in death by a sister, Etta Jean Rial. Graveside services will be held 11:30 am on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Franklin Cemetery with the Rev. Joseph P. Martin, Jr., Pastor of Cooperstown United Methodist Church officiating.
