Fred W. Baum, age 90, of 120 Front Street, Franklin died at 12:32 pm. Friday ,January 04, 2013 at UPMC-Northwest Seneca. Born October 27, 1922 in Erie, PA, Fred was the son of the late Fred and Elizabeth (Thumwood) Baum. On January 16, 1948, he married Gwen Heffernan, who preceded him in death on March 13, 2003. A veteran of World War II, he had served in the US Army. Fred was employed as a Claims Manager for the CPT before retiring in 1982. He was a life member and past president of the Rocky Grove Fire Department, and a member of the Elks, Moose, American Legion, and a Charter member of the Senior Citizens Golf League. Surviving are two grandchildren; Randy Davis and wife, Polly, of Indiana, PA, Ted Davis and wife, Tammi, of Reno; four great-grandchildren; Jason Davis of Franklin; Jonelle Davis of San Diego; Christian Barilar of Punxsutawney; Marcus Barilar of Marion, IN; two great-great grandchildren; Aiden Davis and George Hoag. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his daughter, Barbara Davis, and his sister, Medora Baum. Family and friends will be received from 3-7 Monday, January 8, 2013 at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, where funeral services will be held 11 am Tuesday. Military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Interment will be made in Franklin Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society, PO Box 1045, Oil City, PA 16301 .       My deepest sympathy in your loss. In my first job in Franklin, Gwen and Fred made my days at CPT quite interesting, with their great humor, friendliness, and encouragement. It was obvious that they loved life and each other. They touched many lives with genuine care and concern.
