Vivian C. Spangler Vivian C. Spangler, 98, (formerly of Chestnut Street, Franklin) passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2011, at The Caring Place where she had resided for the past year. Born in Rouseville on August 20, 1913, Vivian was the daughter of the late Charles and Cleva Ellis Bowers. She was married to Melvin L. Spangler on October 9, 1936 and he preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Spangler retired from Polk Center in 1974 where she had been employed for more than 10 years as a Building Supervisor. She was a member of the Polk United Methodist Church; a member of the Franklin Housing Authority; a Board Member of UPMC Northwest Auxiliary; and a member of Sugarcreek Grange. Mrs. Spangler is survived by her son, Alec Spangler and his wife, Shirley, of Sandy Lake; and her daughters, Janet Bowes and her husband, Leigh, of Cambridge Springs, and Diane McElhaney and her husband, Art, of Venice, Florida. She is additionally survived by her 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Vivian was preceded in death by her brother, Lester Bowers; her grandson, Donald Bowes; and her great-granddaughter, Lauren Bowes. Family and friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Monday, December 19, 2011 from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services for Mrs. Spangler will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lea Guiney, pastor of Polk United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Sunville Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Polk United Methodist Church Building Fund and/or The Christian Loving Fund at The Caring Place - PO Box 1055, Franklin, PA 16323.
