Charles L. Girty Charles L. Girty, 54, of Causeway Drive, passed away at his residence at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Born April 4, 1957, in Franklin, Charles was the son of the late William Ayers and Shirley Fike Girty. He retired from Polk Center in 2002, where he had worked as a Residential Staff Aide. Mr. Girty loved hunting, fishing and camping. His best companion was his dog "Earl". He also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davison motorcycle and following the Buffalo Bills. He was a good advocate for his son "Spike". Charles is survived by his sons, Joshua L. Girty and his wife, Heidi, of Rockland, Charles A. "Spike" Girty of Shippenville, Justin M. Girty and T.J. Baker, both of Cooperstown; and his 8 grandchildren, Alexis Girty, Ashlie Girty, Abigail Girty, Ava Vandeventer,and Samantha Vandeventer, all of Oil City, Jessa Girty and Reese Girty of Greenville, and Noel Baker of Tionesta. He is additionally survived by his brothers, Michael Shields and his wife, Vandy, of Franklin and Richard Girty and his wife, Lorraine, of Oil City; and his sisters, Diane Whitman and her husband, Eric, of Cooperstown, Tina Shara and her husband, Michael, of Clintonville, Linda Gotcher of Lander, Wyoming, Sandra Cotherman and her husband, Daniel, of Guys Mills, and Gloria Hoover of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his former wife, Vickie Girty. In addition to his parents, Mr. Girty was preceded in death by his son, Jeremy Girty; and his brother, William Girty. A Memorial Service for Mr. Girty will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the Cooperstown United Methodist Church at 1 p.m., with Rev. Joseph P. Martin, Jr., officiating. A gathering will be held at the church from 12 noon until 1 p.m., prior to the Memorial Service. The Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Venango County Humane Society - P.O. Box 1045, Oil City, PA 16301 and/or the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Western PA - NW Division - P.O.
