Peggy L. Buchna, 59, of Second Avenue, Franklin died at 12:25 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012 at her residence after a courageous, but short fight with ALS. Born July 12, 1952 in Oil City, she was the daughter of Clyde Rex, Sr. and Ruth I. Deitz. Peggy was a 1970 graduate of Oil City High School. She was employed as a RSA for Polk Center from 1975 to 1990, when she retired. Peggy was of the Lutheran faith. She loved playing games, riding her bikes, the outdoors, and needlepoint. She also loved her dogs and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was married on September 26, 1980 to Thomas Buchna, who preceded her in death on March 17, 1983. Peggy is survived by her mother, Ruth Rex of Polk, PA; her fiance, Donald Schaffer of Franklin; her daughter, Tammy Hughes and her husband, Michael J. of Franklin; step-son Bill Buchna and his wife, Lisa of Franklin; two brothers, Clyde A. Rex, Jr. of Polk and Dennis L. Rex and his wife, Linda of Buffalo, NY; two sisters, Darlene Rex of Tallahassee, FL and Janet Beichner and her husband, Raymond of President; and her two grandchildren, Brandon Frantz of Meadville and Thomas Frantz of Clover, SC. In addition to her husband, Peggy was preceded in death by her father and her son, Thomas R. Frantz, II. Friends will be received at the Gardiner Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Friday, March 9, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. David Parker of the Sugarcreek United Methodist Charge, officiating. Interment will take place in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorials be made to the Brandon and Thomas Frantz Educational Fund, c/o the First National Bank of PA, 210 13th Street, Franklin, PA 16323.
