Dale Berlin Dale Berlin, 96, of Park Street, Franklin, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. Born March 14, 1915, in Oil City, Dale was the son of the late Archie and Mary Sandrock Berlin. He was married May 29, 1939 to the former Ida Lorraine Wright, and she preceded him in death on March 22 of this year. Dale retired in 1963 from U.S. Steel where he had worked for 27 years as an Assemblyman. He then worked for Joy Manufacturing also as an Assemblyman for almost 20 years, and retired from there in 1982. Dale was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Rocky Grove for more than 60 years, and was always an active member of the Church. He was a member of A.F.L.C.I.O. Local #223 and I.A.M. Local #1842. Dale enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed the times he spent with his family. Dale is survived by his two daughters, Marjorie L. Confer of Franklin, and Margaret S. Hughes and her husband, Terry, of Wellford, South Carolina; his grandson, Joseph M. Freehling and his wife, Megan, of Moore, South Carolina, and his grandson, Timothy M. Freehling, and a son-in-law, Michael Freehling, both of Pacolet, South Carolina; and his sister, Alice Pauline Gold, of Oil City. In addition to his parents and wife, Dale was preceded in death by his son-in-law, William Confer; his three brothers, Marion, Ralph and Delane Berlin; and his six sisters, Twila Berlin, Leota Benninger, Violet McCauley, Marguerite Davison, Caroline Stack, and Viola Spence. Family and friends of Dale will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday, October 23, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Linda Deeter, pastor of The Caring Place, officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Garden. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Grace United Methodist Church of Rocky Grove, 350 Front Street, Franklin PA 16323 and/or to The Caring Place, 103 North 13th Street, Franklin PA 16323.
