John E. Guilinger John E. Guilinger, of West View Drive, Franklin, passed away at 8:00 p.m., Sunday, June 12, at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie. Born June 15, 1920, in East Liverpool, Ohio, John was the son of the late Edgar C. and Hazel Cox Guilinger. He married the former Gladys Louise Miller, May 29, 1945, and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2000. Mr. Guilinger worked for Rural Electric in Parker installing electric poles and lines. In 1940, he worked as a draftsman for Petroleum Iron Works in Petroleum, Ohio; and later worked for General American Transportation Corp. for 30 years as an estimator. After his retirement from General American Transportation Corp., Mr. Guilinger was employed by Polk State School and Brown Boiler & Tank Works. He was a long-standing member of Franklin B.P.O.E. #110 and a very active member of the Franklin YMCA, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships with all who knew him. Mr. Guilinger was a WWII Army Veteran having served from June 28, 1946 until December 23, 1947. While in the Army, he received the WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Guilinger is survived by his son, Arthur E. Guilinger of Franklin; his daughter, Carol Ann Price of Montgomery, Texas; and his grandchildren, Kim Schwebach, Robert Hughes, James Hughes, Jason Hughes, and Ryan Hughes, all of Texas; and his five great-grandchildren, Rachyl, Andrew, Sarah, Steven, and Joshua. He is also survived by his brother Clarence (Bud) Guilinger of Polk; and his two nephews, Braden Guilinger and John Guilinger. Mr. Guilinger was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and an infant brother, Vincent Guilinger. Family and friends of Mr. Guilinger will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Wednesday, June 15 from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, June 16 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Joseph P. Martin, Jr., pastor of Cooperstown United Methodist Church, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard. Interment will be in Old Sandy Cemetery.
