Mary D. Whitman Mary D. Whitman, 72, of Gilfillan Street, Franklin, passed away at 8:38 p.m. , Sunday, February 27, at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh. Born March 27, 1938 in Topeka, Kansas, Mary was the daughter of the late Donald J. and Catherine M. Davis Packer. She was married September 7, 1957 to Jack D. Whitman, and he survives. Mary was a 1956 graduate of Rocky Grove High School and attended Grove City College. She was a homemaker and also had worked as a secretary for a few local attorneys and local District Magistrate. She attended several United Methodist Churches throughout her life, and most recently attended the Chapel at The Caring Place. She was a member of Belle Letters and was an avid card player and played in several local bridge clubs. She was a devoted wife for 53 years and a wonderful mother. She dearly loved her three grandchildren with whom she enjoyed spending much time. In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her son, Jeffrey T. Whitman; and her daughter, Ann Marie Schneider and her husband, Steve; and her three grandchildren, Breck L., Colton J., and Aubria J. Schneider, all of Franklin. She is also survived by her sister, Donna Shipley and husband, Robert, of Maryville, Tennessee; her sister-in-law, Marilyn Packer of Grove City; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother, William D. Packer Family and friends of Mary will be received on Wednesday, March 2 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, March 3, at 12:00 Noon, with Rev. Linda Deeter, pastor of The Caring Place, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Garden. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Christian Loving Fund, P.O. Box 1055, Franklin, PA 16323.
