Cecil L. Shingledecker

Cecil L. Shingledecker, 76, of 127 Circle Street, Franklin died Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 7:51 am at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born January 7, 1934 in Raymilton, PA, he was the son of the late Albert J. and Goldie W. Beach Shingledecker. Cecil was a polisher for the Erie Casket Company for 21 years. He was also a laborer in the Salvage Department for the General Electric Company for 23 years. Cecil enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He loved his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his dog, Cruiser. He was always willing to help his family and friends. He was married on September 27, 1953 to the former Violet McCool, who survives. In addition to his wife, Cecil is survived by two sons, Steven LeRoy Shingledecker of Waterford and his companion, Donna M. Jones and Raymond Lawson and his wife, Patricia of Rockcreek, Ohio; three daughters, Christine Ann Rodkey and her husband, Roland of Franklin, Brenda R. Westover and her husband, Craig of Franklin, and Tina W. Vollentine and her husband, Earl of Union City; two brothers, Albert Shingledecker and his wife, Dorothy of Grove City and Richard Shingledecker and his wife, Judy of Franklin; and three sisters, Marion Wheeler and her husband, William of Jackson Center, Dorothy Dick of Sandy Lake, and Priscilla McCool and her husband, Bud of Cooperstown. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Joseph Talkish of Waterford, Ryan Talkish of Franklin, Garrett Westover and his wife, Lacy of Cranberry, Trisha Westover of Franklin, Eric Shingledecker and his wife, Rebecca of McKean, PA, Erin Shingledecker of Waterford, Heather Thoms and her husband, Robert of Waterford, Matthew Vollentine of Union City, Melissa Hargenrader and her husband, Ken of Akron, Ohio, and Tracy Takacs and her husband, Jason of Orwell, Ohio; and 5 great grandchildren, Vincent and Nathan Shingledecker of McKean, Jason Takacs of Orwell, Ohio, and Jared Hargenrader and Brian Lawson both of Akron, Ohio. In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by two sisters, Esther DeLong and Margaret Wheeler. Friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Monday, April 5, 2010 from 7-9 pm and Tuesday, April 6, 2010 from 9-11 am. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am at the Funeral Home with the Rev. Jonathan Bell of the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church presiding. Interment will follow in Waterford Cemetery.
