Frank R. Bucko, Sr., 81, of 394 Doerr Road, Franklin, a retired steelworker, died at 9:05 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 at Sugar Creek Station. Born June 14, 1928, in Brandy Camp, he was the son of Andrew Bucko and Bertha Palaschek Bucko. He was married Nov. 12, 1949, to the former Lois A. Franklin, who preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the Korean War era. Mr. Bucko was a steelworker for 27 years, having worked at U.S. Steel's Homestead Works until his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman and excelled at all types of fishing. He was the president and founder of the Homestead District Sportsmans Club. Mr. Bucko loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He had a great sense of humor and was a very unique character. He was very generous to friends and family. He is survived by three children, Frank R. Bucko, Jr. of Franklin, Lynnette A. Emerick and her husband, Gene A. of Greensburg and Deborah F. Layden of Franklin; a grandson, Justin Emerick and wife, Rita of Pittsburgh; and a great-grandchild, Andrius Emerick of Pittsburgh. He is also survived by a sister, Patricia Dulay and her husband, Robert of Clairton; and a brother, Bernard "Sonny" Bucko and his wife, Joyce of Melvindale, Mich. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Andrew Bucko, Jr. who was killed during the Korean conflict. Friends will be received from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the Gardinier Funeral Home.
