William Deal, 85, of 219 Egbert St., Franklin, died at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at his residence, with his wife and daughter at his side. Born Nov. 11, 1923, in Stoneboro, he was the son of the late George Deal and Marie McQuiston. Mr. Deal was married Dec. 11, 1944, to Thelma I. Smith. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Deal worked predominantly for Shreckengost Construction as a union carpenter. He was a member and past governor of the Moose Club, a member and past commander of VFW Post 1835, and a member of the Eagles Club. Mr. Deal's hobbies included fishing, hunting, woodworking, and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife of 65 years, Mr. Deal is survived by four children, Robert Allen Deal of Franklin, George Albert Deal and his wife, Barbara, of Richmond, Va., Billie Lee McMichael and her husband, John, of Galveston, Texas, and Phyllis Jane Deal Moorhouse of Franklin; 13 grandchildren, Robert Allen Deal Jr of Franklin, Tambra Lynn Karns and her husband, David, of Galveston, Texas, William Henry Deal and his wife, Shannon, of Franklin, Susan Marie Moorhouse Kern and her husband, Scott, of Guam, Tomi Rea Moorhouse Williams and her husband, David, of Diamond, Ohio, Terri Jo McMichael of Meadville, Rhonda Montgomery and her husband, Rob, of Titusville, Brian Deal of Beaver, George Deal and his wife, Courtney, of Richmond, Va., Laura Deal of Atlanta, Ga., Ann Deal of Richmond, Va., and Barbara McMichael and John McMichael, both of Galveston, Texas; and 29 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Deal was preceded in death by four brothers, Raymond Deal, Nicholas Deal, Lawrence Deal and George Deal; six sisters, Mabel Zavotney, Katherine Deal, Leona Keilmeir, Francis Keilmeir, Edith Lindsey and Mary Deal; one daughter, Barbara Ann Deal; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Deal; and one son-in-law, Richard Mason. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, at the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home Inc., 1315 Chestnut St., Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jo Pottle of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Interment will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at Franklin Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded by the VETS Honor Guard. The family suggests memorials be made to the VETS Honor Guard, 288 Pioneer Road, Franklin; or the Visiting Nurses Association, 491 Allegheny Blvd., Franklin.
