Wayne C. Morgan, 85, of 436 Sugarcreek Drive, Franklin, died at 1:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at UPMC Northwest. Born April 8, 1923, in Argentine, Butler County, he was the son of Albert Morgan and Amanda Young. He was married Jan. 18, 1957, to the former Marie A. Schoen, who preceded him in death Feb. 3, 2002. Mr. Morgan was a retired steel worker from Franklin Steel. He had previously worked at the Amalie Refinery. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran from 1943 to 1946, and he served in World War II. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal and an Asian-Pacific Theater Service Victory Medal. Mr. Morgan attended Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Franklin. He was an avid hunter, and he enjoyed gardening and spending time on his front porch waving to friends and neighbors. He also had a beloved dog named Bud. Mr. Morgan spent the last two months at Sugar Creek Station healing from a broken leg. Mr. Morgan is survived by two sons, David Morgan of Pittsburgh and Joseph Morgan and his wife, Wendy, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a daughter, Jean Marie Morgan of Franklin; and a grandchild, Joseph Morgan Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C. Mr. Morgan was preceded in death by his parents and wife. He was the last surviving member of the Morgan family, and he was one of nine children. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Gardinier Funeral Home Inc. in Franklin. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Scott Woodlee of Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Franklin officiating. Interment will be in North Washington Union Cemetery, Butler County.
