March 15, 1917 ~ June 2, 2008

Eva "Becky" McCune, of 165 Water St., Utica, died at 12:25 p.m., Monday, June 2, 2008. Born March 15, 1917, in French Creek Township, Venango County, Eva was the daughter of Laurence and Mary Carey Aley. She was raised in the North Sandy area. Because her mother died when she was 12 years old, Eva worked as a mother's helper for room and board throughout high school. She graduated from New Castle High School in 1935. She married Arnold Ray McCune on Oct. 21, 1939, in Sheakleyville. He gave her the nickname "Becky." They lived in Utica and were married 30 years until his death on July 22, 1970. Mrs. McCune had been employed as a cashier at Dave Wilson's store in Utica, and for several years she was a tax collector for Utica Borough. She was also employed at Polk State School and Hospital for seven years, retiring in 1982. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting and sewing, and she was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. Always being independent and able to fend for herself, her biggest difficulty in her later years was needing others to do for her. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia McNutt and husband, Larry, of Franklin, Sharon Gill and husband, Donald, of Meadville and Rhonda Conapitski and husband, C.J., of Myerstown; her grandchildren, Carla Graham and husband, Troy, Eletha Hill and husband, Christopher, Amy Gill and fiance, Jamie Britt, Casey and Brynn Conapitski; and her great-grandchildren, Jessica Shook, Madalynn and Penelope Hill and Tyler Graham. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Doris Lean; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Alyce Stafford, Donna Reiser and Frances Pyle; and her brothers, Dan, Clarence "Shorty" and John Aley. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Utica, where Mrs. McCune attended, with Dr. Rob Guy of Barkeyville Church of God officiating. Interment will be at Millcreek Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to First Presbyterian Church of Utica, P.O. Box 96, or the Utica Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box83, Utica 16362. Arrangements are being handled by the Robert W. Gardiner Funeral Home Inc. in Franklin.
