Everett Boyd Gilliland, 79, of Franklin, passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Friday, August 29th, at The Caring Place in Franklin. Born October 16, 1934, in Youngstown, Ohio, Everett was the son of Boyd H. and Viola (Grace) Conway Gilliland. He was married December 15, 1956 to Julia (Judy) Hart and she survives.Everett worked at Sandy Lake Implement and retired from Franklin Steel, where he had been employed as a machinist for more than 30 years. He was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Peacetime Era. While in the Army, Everett was the recipient of a Good Conduct Medal. Everett was a member of the Reynolds United Methodist Church. He was a member of Sandy Creek Volunteer Fire Department for more than 50 years, and was a State Forest Fire Warden for more than 40 years. Everett enjoyed the out-of-doors, camping, traveling, reading, and "bartering" at flea markets.In addition to his wife, Everett is survived by his son, Matthew H. Gilliland and his wife, Cheryl L., of Flower Mound, Texas; his daughters, Patricia S. Jones of Franklin, and Dawn K. Elias and her husband, Michael J., of Indiana; and his daughter-in-law, Gail M. Larsen and her husband, Louis D., of Franklin. Everett is also survived by his 7 grandchildren, Gregory B. Gilliland, and his fiancee', Mandy Harrison, and Katrina S. Jones, all of Norfolk, VA, Kevin R. Jones, and his fiancee', Jen Miller, of Irwin, PA, Sheldon J. Scott, Stephany M. Scott and Spencer M. Gilliland, all of Flower Mound, TX, and Amanda K. Elias of Indiana, PA. He is additionally survived by his brother, William Gilliland and his wife, Jackie of Cherry Valley, CA; and his 2 sisters, Barbara Carpenter of Chula Vista, CA, and Donna McEntyre and her husband, William, of Fountain, CO.In addition to his parents, Everett was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth B. Gilliland; and his sister, Viola Mae Gilliland.Family and friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Monday, September 1st from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 2nd at 11 a.m. with Rev. Giles Bailey, pastor of the Reynolds United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Millcreek Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S. Honor Guard.
