William L. McDaniel, Sr, 76, of 312 Sugarcreek Drive, Franklin died at 10:30 AM, August 23, 2013 at his residence. Born April 12, 1937 in Franklin, William was the son of the late Theron and Emma Jane (Hancox) McDaniel. On November 3, 1987 he married Ann L. Smerker Martyna, who preceded him in death on October 16, 2012. William was a tax collector for the Boro of Sugarcreek for 46 years and was self-employed as an accountant. He was a member of the Sugarcreek Civics Club, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, the Rocky Grove Lions, and the Masonic Lodge #316. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his beloved family. William is survived by his sons, William L. McDaniel, Jr. of Naples, FL and Charles A. McDaniel and his fiance, Julie Williams of Franklin; his daughter, Bonnie K. Sharrar and her husband, Calvin, of Franklin; his half-sisters, Betty Whitman and Phyllis Snyder both of Rockland; his grandchildren Ryan Sharrar, Kaycelynn Sharrar, Emily Sharrar, Katie Rial and her husband, Cody, Kelley McDaniel, William L. McDaniel, III, and Nicholas A. McDaniel; his step-grandchildren, Matthew Martyna and McKayla Lacy; his great-grandchild Kambree K. Rial; and his cat, Johnny He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brother, T.R. McDaniel, Jr.; and his sister, Mabel A. VanBrussell. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. at the Sugarcreek United Methodist Church, 443 Sugarcreek Drive, Franklin with the Rev. Karen Kostur, officiating. The Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin is handling the arrangements. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Sugarcreek United Methodist Church Building Fund, 443 Sugarcreek Drive, Franklin, PA 16323 .     We are so sorry for your loss. Your dad was a wonderful man and a great friend.  He will be missed by all who knew him.
    We always looked forward to our income tax appointment. We always knew we would hear a good joke or two and share in the laughter about the old times. We loved to hear about the stories when he and my dad ran around together.

My deepet condolences to the family on the loss of your loved one.  I didn’t know Mr. McDaniels, but was sorry to hear of his passing.  When we lose someone we love in death, the pain, grief, and feelings of helplessness can seem unbearable.  But remember that the Almighty God sees your tears, he feels your pain, and he will continue with you to comfort and and strengthen you through this difficult time.

  17. I’m sorry to hear about Bill’s passing.  He was a long time friend of my parents Dick and Elsie Rodgers.  I enjoyed his company while on the Sugarcreek planning comission also.  May Bill rest in peace and rise in glory.

  24. I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS. BEING OUT THERE TWO DAYS IN A ROW TO SEE HIM JUST WASNT IN THE PLAN. WHEN HE WAS IN BED SLEEPING THAT DAY, CHARLIE, I GUESS HE JUST WASNT FEELING WELL. I HOPE YOU HAD A CHANCE TO TELL HIM I WAS THERE SITTING ON HIS SWING TO SEE HIM. HE REALLY MEANT A LOT TO ME AND AS HE SAID..WE HAVE BEEN GOOD FRIENDS FOR OVER 20 YEARS.  HE WILL BE MISSED.     My condolences for the recent loss of your father.  I just beeped at him a few months ago as he sat on the porch when we were on our way home from my son’s RG American Legion baseball game at Sugarcreek.  I’m sure he didn’t know who I was, but, he still waved and it brought up many stories of my LL days practicing at your house and his baritone voice and huge laugh…ah, the good old days.  I only wish now we would have stopped and i would have let him tell the stories as he could tell a yarn with the best of them.
