Joyce E. Phillips Joyce E. Phillips, 87, of Franklin, passed away at 3:45 a.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born, February 23, 1924, in Leeper, Clarion County, Joyce was the daughter of the late Benjamin Valentine and Jessie AMelda Gilmore Phillips. Joyce was a 1942 graduate of Farmington Consolidated High School. She worked at the Glass Plant in Clarion County, and in later years she went back to school and graduated in 1974 from Montgomery College, in Washington, D.C. with an Associate's Degree in Nursing. She worked in the D.C. area for several years before returning to the Franklin area, where she worked as a Registered Nurse at Polk Center until her retirement in 1984. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Franklin and was also a member of the church's "Lunch Bunch" and the American Baptist Women's Ministry (ABWM). Over the years, Joyce shared her home with her beloved animals. At the time of her death, she leaves behind her special cat, Kobi. Joyce is survived by her sisters, Eva Roberts and Jessie (Jackie) Master, both of Oil City; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her sisters, Kathryn (Kate) Dahle, Laura Williams, Gertrude (Gert) McCloskey, and Cecil (Fan) Gesin; and her brothers, Benjamin Phillips, James Phillips, and Vaughn Phillips. Family and friends of Joyce will be received at the First Baptist Church in Franklin on Friday, October 7, 2011 from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral Services will be held at the church at 11 a.m. following visitation with Rev. Jeff Sterling, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Warren, and Rev. Jay Sterling, pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Conneaut Lake, both great-nephews of Joyce's, officiating. Interment will follow in Tylersburg Cemetery. The Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin is entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences, flowers and cards may be sent by visiting www.gardinierfuneralhome.com.
