Betty L. Patterson

Betty L. Patterson, 81, of Pacific Street in Franklin, went to be with the Lord at 12:40 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Born May 18, 1930 in Oil City, PA, she was the daughter of the late Perry J. and Edith Matilda Verner Moore. She was married on May 24, 1946 to Merle W. Patterson, who preceded her in death. Betty worked as a custodian for the Franklin YMCA and Victory Elementary School. She also worked as a crossing guard for Seventh Street Elementary in Franklin and was most recently a childcare provider. Mrs. Patterson was a member of the Franklin Free Methodist Church. She loved camping, playing Rummy and board games with her family, and attending auctions and flea markets. Betty was a member of the Lucky 13 C.B. Club and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. She also loved her dog, Patches. She recently travelled through West Virginia to visit the birth place of her son. Mrs. Patterson was noted for apple pies, Christmas cookies, and fudge. She also enjoyed collecting music boxes and angels. Mrs. Patterson is survived by her children, Norman G. Moore and his wife, Kitty of Franklin, Edith Fitzgerald of Oil City, Cindy L. Schill of Oil City, Betty Mae Green and her husband, Wayne of Danville, PA, and Pamela S. Patterson of Franklin; 10 grandchildren, Kathleen Kistler and her husband, Tom of Franklin, April Boyles and her special friend, Gary Lepley of Franklin, Norman A. Moore and his wife, Sandy of Reno, James W. Moore and his wife, Boni of Oil City, William W. Maloney and his wife, Kathie of Girard, Angel M. Stephens of Oil City, Richard E. Austin, II of Franklin, Mark A. Green and his fiancee, Ashley Snook of Danville, PA, Jeff L. Green and his fiancee, Kimberly Hunsberger of Danville, PA, and Tammi Wise of Franklin; 20 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-great-grandchildren; and her two sisters, Mildred L. Crawford of Arizona and Janet Karns of Bradleytown. In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her great-granddaughter Lyllian Austin; two brothers, Larry E. Moore and Ralph P. Moore; and 6 sisters, Ethel J. Moore, Florence Hoffman, Mary H. Hiles, Elva Orsino, Alice Smith, and Erla McCleary. Friends will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 from 9-11 a.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home at 11 a.m. following visitation, with Rev. Frank Wolford, pastor of the Franklin Free Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
