Martha E. "Lib" Welms Martha E. "Lib" Welms, 85, died at 12:00 p.m. May 20, 2010 at The Caring Place, where she had been a resident since 2007. She previously lived on Glenwood Drive, Oil City and Pone Lane, Franklin. Born February 22, 1925 in Spice, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Edgar P. and Almedia Florence Smith Hendrick. She was married September 25, 1943 to Orville Dale Boyer. He died August 23, 1960. She then married Julius E. Welms February 22, 1975. He died January 17, 2007. Lib was employed at Polk Center in the physical therapy department, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Oil City. She recently had attended Christ United Methodist in Franklin. Lib enjoyed square dancing, bowling, knitting and playing cards. She was an avid Steeler's fan. Lib also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her six children and their spouses: Marian Mahoney of Rockville, Maryland; Ruth Steenburg of Manassas, Virginia; Sandra Barnes of Huntersville, North Carolina; Martha Chasler and her husband, Colin, of Rockville, Maryland; Ronel Boyer of Willimantic, Connecticut and Robert Boyer and his wife, Leslie, of Franklin. Lib is also survived by her thirteen grandchildren: Christina Mahoney, Carrie Mahoney, Kevin Mahoney, Kim Anchell, Kelly Karns, Jessica Chasler, Ian Chasler, Adam Boyer, Kate Young, Bonnie Keith, Stephen Brundage, Michael Boyer, Pat Boyer; her eight great- grandchildren; one brother, Carl Hendrick, of La Quinta, California; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husbands, Lib was preceded in death by her five brothers: Ronel Hendrick, Loyd Hendrick, Edgar Hendrick, Warren Hendrick, and Glen Hendrick; and her two sisters: Olive Swanson and Maxine Lunceford. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, May 23, 2010 at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, and also on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church. Funeral services for Lib will be held on Monday, May 24, at 11 a.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Janz, pastor of Christ United Methodist Church, presiding. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens, Cranberry.
