Clair O. Rankin Sr., 82, of 1149 Liberty St., Franklin, died at 12:10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at The Caring Place in Franklin. Born Dec. 30, 1925, in Fairview Township, Butler County, he was a son of Orville H. Rankin and Edna A. Hartzell. He was married Nov. 18, 1961, to Elizabeth A. O'Brien, who preceded him in death on March 3, 2003. Mr. Rankin served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1947 and received a Presidential Citation in 1946, Philipine Liberation. He was employed as a machinist at Chicago Pneumatic Tool until he retired in 1988. Mr. Rankin was a member of the Myrtle Lodge No. 316 F&AM and enjoyed flying and the outdoors. He is survived by three children, Clair O. Rankin Jr. and wife, Sveta, of Franklin, Joseph Rankin of Franklin, and Tamara Warrington and husband, Tracy, of Cooperstown; three grandchildren, Michael Warrington, Tylor Warrington and Stacie Warrington, all of Cooperstown; a sister, Leila Hutchinson of Chicago; and a brother, Paul Rankin and wife, Naomi, of Altoona. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil Rankin and Clarence Rankin. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Linda Deeter, of The Caring Place, officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens at 1:00 P.M.,following the funeral service where Military Honors will be accorded by the VETS Honor Guard.
