Roy Joseph Lippert

June 24, 1937 ~ February 6, 2022
Born in: Cochranton, Pennsylvania
Roy Joseph Lippert, 84, of Meadville, passed away, Sunday, February 6, 2022 after an extended illness with his loving family by his side. He was born on June 24, 1937 in Cochranton, a son of John R. Lippert and Isabel Theuret Lippert. He married Shirley Lojek on November 22, 1958. She preceded him in death on June 2, 2001. He subsequently married Jean, on January 11, 2003.
Roy was a man of God, who loved his family and his country. He enlisted in the US Army in 1956 and did his basic training in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and his technical training at Fort Sam Houston. He was stationed in Hanau, Germany. He was an ambulance driver and his division was called the "Seven Steps to Hell."
He was well known as "the fiddler." Over his lifetime he enjoyed many jam sessions with his friends and being part of many bands over the years, including The Moonriders, Horseshoe Band, and most recently The Conquerors. His love of music started at a very young age. He never learned to read music, but could pick up on a tune very quickly.
Roy also enjoyed hunting, especially coon hunting. If his grandson, Josh, wasn't available, he was happy to go with anyone willing to go. He also loved deer hunting and telling deer stories.
He was a hardworking man, working for West Mead Township as a Road Operator until his retirement in 2000. He would often work extra jobs to provide for his family. His strong work ethic is a legacy passed on to his children and grandchildren. Oftentimes you could find him on his tractor mowing his grass or picking up leaves. He loved spending time outdoors.
Roy also loved puzzles and he could spend hours working on them. He would often frame them and give them to family or friends, or he would donate them to be raffled off.
He was a diehard Cleveland Indians fan, and was waiting for them to win the World Series.

Jean I’m sorry to hear of Roy’s passing. I’m happy we got to see each other in August on the super hot day. I loved seeing his smiling face when I came to town. It will definitely leave a void in the “family”. My heart is with you as you walk these next few weeks and months. With love, Rose (Holzer) Hoover

Dear Jean, Karole, Brett, and family,I was so sad to hear of Roy’s passing! He was such a nice man! I loved his smile, and he always shared it with me! I remember him playing “Silent Night” at our Christmas Masses at St. Brigid’s. We all really enjoyed his unique style! Roy will be greatly missed. ❤️🙏
My deepest condolences to Roy’s family and friends. He will be greatly missed. I have known Roy in many capacities for most of my life. First he was my father’s supervisor at the Township for many years. I remember my father speaking very highly of Roy. Dad considered Roy a great boss but more importantly a treasured friend. As a child I remember Roy and Shirley being very kind to me. As an adult I loved to go anywhere that I knew Roy would be playing in the band. He was the best fiddle player in Crawford County and probably the state! Later in life Roy became family when his son Ed married our daughter Traci. We could not have wished for better in-laws than Roy and Jean! Lastly Roy was a great friend to us and all who were blessed to have known him. Just last summer we got 2 old friends together, Roy and my dad and we all had a wonderful time reminiscing. There is one great band playing up in heaven!
Sorry to hear of Roy’s passing. You have my deepest sympathy. Roy was always a good neighbor. Your neighbor, Ron Hays

Dear Jean, I want to express my sympathy and send you a hug. You were so kind to teach me how to bind a quilt during a Quilts of Valor Sew Day a couple of years ago. I truly enjoyed spending time with you cutting quilt kits. Know that I am praying for you. With deepest sympathy, Theresa Novosel
