Robert John Tyndall

YNC (SS) Robert John Tyndall, United States Navy (Retired), 74, of Union City, peacefully passed away at his home on Sunday, September 5, 2021. His loving wife of 48 years, Anh, was by his side.
John, also known as "Jack" to family members, was born on July 28, 1947, in Union City, to the late John Rufus Tyndall, Jr. and Frances Jean Tyndall (née Hoover). After graduating from Union City High School in 1965, he enlisted in the United States Navy.
A Vietnam veteran, Chief Tyndall served his country for twenty years and traveled around the world. He served on the destroyers USS Jonas Ingram (DD-238) and USS John King (DDG-938) and was a part of the Allied Forces Southern Europe in Naples, Italy; Military Assistance Command (Perimeter Defense Force) in Vietnam; and the Naval ROTC unit (NROTC) at the University of Notre Dame. He was qualified in submarines and served on the USS Will Rogers (SSBN-659) and USS Nautilus (SSN-571). He worked at the Pentagon as part of the United States Central Command, Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, and Naval Military Personnel Command. He retired in March 1987 on board the USS Barry (DD-933).
He was a strong, supportive, and dedicated father as well as a devoted grandfather ("Papa"). His knowledge, guidance, and sense of humor was the foundation for his family, of which he was very proud. In addition to his wife, Ngocanh Thi Tyndall, he is survived by his three children, John Brian Tyndall and his wife, Tiffany, of State College, PA; Jessica Jean Tyndall of Pittsburgh, PA; and Michael James Tyndall of Union City; and his seven grandchildren, Nathan, Jacob, and Elizabeth Tyndall; Hunter Powell and Emerie and Phoenix Tyndall; and Mya Tyndall.
Family and friends are welcome to call on Friday, September 10th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Warren-Glenn Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 62 S. Main Street, Union City. The funeral service will follow at 4:00 pm.
Burial, with military funeral honors, will take place at Loomis Cemetery, Bloomfield Township, Union City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Union City Public Library, 2 Stranahan Street, Union City, PA 16438, or the Union City Museum & Historical Society, 11 S. Main Street, Union City, PA 16438, both of which fueled his love of reading, history, and genealogy.

So many memories of John and his family throughout the years from preschool ( Mike and Jake in the same class) and John, Justice (John’s support dog) and Mike walking to and from their school. Memories continued throughout the years till present day. My family and I send our sympathies and condolences to Anh, John Jr, Jessica and Mike!
