Duane Virgil Higley
July 31, 1951 ~ January 10, 2019
Born in: Union City, Pennsylvania
Duane V. Higley, 67, born July 31st, 1951, died peacefully in his family home on January 10,2018, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Duane was an avid music lover who enjoyed the oldies and christian classics as well as a good cup of coffee while visiting with friends and family. He was well known for his sense of humor, overall kindness, his ability to make anyone feel like family and his fierce loyalty. Duane enjoyed coon hunting with his many coon hounds and while young, won several night hunt trophies with his beloved dog "old man kid". He enjoyed fishing regularly and did so with his close friends and all of his children and grandchildren. He made it his responsibility to teach his children & grandchildren to show kindness to those deserving or not and to always place family first. Throughout his life he attended several Baptist churches with the most recent being Wilkins Church of Union City, PA and invited all who would listen to come and hear the word of God. His family and friends will miss him for years to come his kind words of advice as he always seemed to know just what to say.
He is survived by his loving wife, Diana (Skarzenski), 2 daughters and their spouses; Kirk and Stacey (Higley) Southworth of Columbus, PA; Ryan and Brande (Higley) Luebbert of Union City, PA; and his son James Higley of Union City, PA. Duane also had 6 grandchildren surviving; Alyssa (Southworth) Sandberg and her husband Todd; Kendra Jolene Byler, Tanis Langton, Lynzee Higley, Ethyn Higley and one great grandchild, Alexander Sandberg. He is survived by 2 brothers; Michael Dominguez and Larry Dominguez (and his wife Roseanne) of Union City,PA, as well as one sister; Mary Lou White of Erie, PA. He was preceded in death by his son Duane Anthony Higley, his parents Michael and June Dominguez and two beloved brothers; David E. Higley and Robert (Butch) Dominguez both of Union City. The family would like to make special mention of his lifelong best friend Dave Wiengard who was there throughout all of life's adventures and continued to be a friend up until Duane's passing.
Viewing and funeral services will be held at Warren-Glenn Funeral Home, 62 South Main Street, Union City, PA 16438, on Sunday, January 13, 2018 with viewing from 1 to 3pm with funeral services to immediately follow. Contributions may be made directly to the funeral home in lieu of flowers to assist in Duane's funeral expenses. For God so loved the world, as to give his only begotten Son; that whosoever believeth in him, may not perish, but may have life everlasting JOHN 3:16

I met your Dad in the Summer of 1989, we were on a fishing trip with Dave Wingard to a to a pond in McCain Pennsylvania right off of I-79. It was a great place to fish for bass and not just any Bass huge Bass but I forgot to mention the part that the pond was private property (NO TRESPASSING) and the only time to fish was at night time so nobody could see us. we didn’t use flashlights but I do recall using Bic lighters to bait our hooks and to unhook the bass when we landed them on shore! the rest you can use your imagination and you’ll probably be be right 😉
but anyway getting back to fishing when Duane would hook a bass he would reel them in so fast the fish would be on top of the water the whole time he was reeling it in! Jason Wingard tells that story the best!
We have gone on different fishing excursions but that one always sticks out the most!
I showed up for the calling hours on Sunday January 13th, and did not have any intentions for staying for the funeral procession at 3 but I’m glad I did! it was great hearing about Duane being a simple man but all family man! and how he impacted his children, grandchildren, in-laws, ex in-laws Etc. in a positive way!
it was nice seeing Duane in the pictures with that side smirk on his face. I also seen pictures Duane during his last days and he never lost that smirk! but last but not least I missed the benefit at the parade Street Church later that weekend Dave Wingard told me about his health condition and gave me his cell phone number. I gave him a call when I got off the phone with Dave. to make a long story short, when I talked to Duane he told me that he wasn’t going to be around much longer! and all I said was you are just going to meet God before the rest of us. he said you’re right! and then at the end of the phone conversation I did not say goodbye , I said; SEE YOU LATER.
And I will!
Duane,
You are now reunited with Duane. You & Kid can hunt forever. hunt on Duane.
Carl.
