Jerry Rexford Van Tassel, Sr. , 69 passed away suddenly, Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at his home in Union City, PA.  Born June 5, 1948, in Union City, he was the only son of Rexford and Irene Van Tassel. Mr. Van Tassel graduated from Titusville High School in 1966. He enlisted into the Army and served from February 1969 to April 1970. Jerry was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War where he earned several medals. In 1981, Jerry began a long career in the locomotive industry at G.E. in Erie, PA and then retired in 2011. He has also worked at Erie Plastics, Corry Rubber, Mahan Motors as salesman in Warren, PA and also was a paramedic in Corry. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially loved fishing with his kids and grandkids while running the “shop” at Timberland Bait. He had many hobbies including going to the flea markets, storytelling and collecting antiques. Most of all, Jerry was about his family. He was a loving husband to Patricia (Walters) whom he married on February 18, 1984. She was the love of his life and best friend who stood by him always. He was a father who loved his children and invested time with them throughout his life.  His grandchildren gave him much joy in the time spent together making lifetime memories. He will be sadly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Patricia; along with 6 children, Jerry (Sarah) Van Tassel of Centerville, Tialisa (Randy) Gregory of Union City, Christopher Van Tassel of Bear Lake, Theresa Murphy of Hacienda Heights, CA, Lorie (Stephen) Ciukaj of Erie, Carrie Peterson of Corry, 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, and many other loving cousins and relatives. He was preceded in death by: his parents; and daughter, Crystal Van Tassel. Family and friends are welcome to call on Monday, October 2nd from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Warren-Glenn Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 62 S. Main Street, Union City. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 3rd at the funeral home at 1:00pm with Pastor Jerry Alsdorf, officiating. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, Titusville.
