I knew Tom comparatively well in Erfurt, Germany where he relocated to in 1994, having worked for financial services in the USA. A gregarious, sociable and loyal man, who was generous with his time and material goods, Tom took pride in tracing his roots to Germany and Wales, I believe. He had previously published a book on how to trace ones ancestors. He kept in touch with his family in the US, but was also a devoted husband and father of three children, having found love quite late in life, with Petra, his German widow, some years after arriving in Erfurt.
Tom taught English to various groups in Germany as a free-lance teacher, and was most interested in current global affairs, business and politics, making many friends along the way. He was a deep-thinking, passionate man, with a great sense of fun, and will be greatly missed. He identified very well with others, and his laugh still rings out loudly. RIP.
